I like the poem Nearby Trees. My grandfather had catalpa trees. I rarely hear anyone mention them. My grandmother favored redbuds and dogwoods.
Thanks for passing on the books tossed to you—looking forward to reading these.
Library access on the peninsula is challenging this summer with both Kenton and St John’s libraries closed. Blessedly the renovated North Portland branch is reopened. This
There were two big old catalpas across the street, a male and a female. One started to list and had to be cut down. That was several years ago, and I think the survivor is still mourning. I think it’s the female. Catalpas are really too big for parking strips, so it was replaced with some weenie tree. Well, at least the sidewalk won’t be buckling so much. If you are in Portland, there’s a very nice catalpa in Overlook Park, across Interstate from Kaiser.
I was just at Kaiser Interstate today. Often I need a mental recovery time after Kaiser visits. Next time I will cross the street to Overlook and enjoy the trees. Thanks for the catalpa tip!
Glad to hear you enjoyed "Gather", Fran. I will be sure to read it now! I'm still trying to figure out where I got that recommendation. Thanks for the kind words about my little book.
I think the Gresham placement was also intentionally chosen to get it farther away from the fault line that is very close to the downtown library.
I ordered up each of the books you talk about: one is not quite available. Glad for that as I usually end up in a pickle when I add multiple books at once. Probably not a big issue with children's books, but still.....
Thanks for another capsule of joy on this Sunday morning, although, I've pushed the limits of my timimg to get to church on time!
If the earthquake is as big as feared, the difference between downtown and Gresham won’t matter much. I’m hoping with my husband that the quake will be off the coast, not so much inland. I can’t get him interested in preparedness regardless.
